44 clients join Bright Horizons on this year’s list, organizations that all turn to Bright Horizons to provide their employees with work/life supports. With the continued pressure of a down economy, work/life supports are more critical than ever to employees. In fact, one of FORTUNE’s criteria for being selected for this year’s list was demonstrating how a company continued to support the professional and personal lives of their employees despite the economic climate.

Each year, two-thirds of the total score for the FORTUNE “100 Best Companies to Work For” list comes from responses to a random employee survey, measuring such things as employee attitudes toward management, job satisfaction, and camaraderie within the organization. The remaining one-third of the score is based on an evaluation of each company’s demographic makeup, benefits and compensation programs, and culture.
Companies are scored in four areas: credibility (communication to employees), respect (opportunities and benefits), fairness (compensation, diversity), and pride/camaraderie (philanthropy, celebrations).
