[Deer Park, IL, June 13, 2017] – Students at Bright Horizons at Deer Park held a Pep Rally for Resource Teacher Garrett Anderson to celebrate his accomplishments in the Special Olympics weight lifting competition.
Anderson teaches sign language to the children at Bright Horizons at Deer Park and inspired the students to learn more about the Special Olympics as he prepared for his weight lifting competition.
When Anderson was asked about his reaction to the pep rally, he said, “This is for you, Deer Park Bright Horizons. [I am] Pretty excited when these kids are so proud of me, screaming and yelling. This day care is like a family to me.”
Sharon Anderson, who is Garrett’s mother said, “He tends to really bond with some of the kids that might have more difficulty in the classroom, because he knows that he had some difficulty in the classroom. He can help them out and give them a little more patience and understanding.”
After the Pep Rally when asked about his hope for the children in the center, Garrett Anderson responded that “I want them to feel that they can and they will do it. They inspire me… They are so special in my heart.”
Chicago reporter for WGN-TV, Erin Ivory, attended the pep rally and featured Anderson and Bright Horizons at Deer Park. Learn more about their visit here.
