It’s the winter, it’s cold, it’s wet, and your kids are getting ready to spend another week in “I’m bored” mode, repeatedly opening and closing the fridge door wondering (out loud) why there’s nothing to eat/drink/do.
Welcome to school break – the five days that say, “Why can’t there be camp in winter??”
Actually…there is. And if you’re reading this right now, it might be part of your benefits. Here’s the great part: your employer has set it up so you can book using Bright Horizons back-up care benefits.
Got your attention? Here’s the rest of the answers to questions you’re probably asking...
Q: Wait, camp, during school vacation…that’s really a thing?
A: Yes, yes it is. Thanks to Steve & Kate’s camp.
Q: Do I know Steve & Kates?
A: Well…they’ve been around for 44 years in about 70 locations. So if you haven’t met them, we’re betting lots of your friends have – and already love them.
Q: What do kids get to do?
A: We’ll let Steve & Kate tell it: “Campers choose minute to minute from a variety of activities including, sewing, stop-motion animation, music, sports & recreation, makers crafts, bread making, and more. They’ll decide what they want to do, and for how long. Our job is to get out of their way, cheerlead creative risks, and provide just enough guidance to make sure nobody does anything, um, crazy.”
Q: Wait – that sounds like fun. I want to do that.
A: Us, too. But it’s just for kids. Sorry.
Q: Only one of my kids is school-age – the other one is still in preschool. Is there someplace my younger one can go?
A: Yup – to camp. With your older one. Steve and Kate’s is for ages 4 to 12. You just want to book as soon as you know since some vacation camps can fill up.
Q: I love this idea – but my kids have never gone to camp before. Is that ok?
A: Is that ok? It’s great! Because the other great thing about school vacation camp is that the groups are smaller so it’s a perfect tryout for camp in summer.
Q: Are you saying Steve & Kate offer summer camp, too – through my benefits?
A: Yes, yes we are. In summer, camp locations are open every weekday except Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. And not only can you book individual days through back-up care, you can put your benefit toward a whole summer pass.
Q: A summer pass? What’s that?
A: It’s exactly what it sounds like. You pay for a pass, you use it for lots of days. You’ll want to check each location for the specific details of cost and number of days.
Q: And all of this is through back-up care?
A: it is. And if you’re looking to get a few days on the calendar for summer, you can start booking ahead of time – sometimes as early as winter! You’ll want to check your portal for company rules.
Ready to book? That’s easy, too.
Go to your benefits portal and book. It’s that easy. If you haven’t registered, you’ll need to do that first. That’s easy, too. Click [here].
Make this school vacation one you’ll remember – for all the best reasons.
