Bright Horizons Family Solutions and Global Law Firm Paul Hastings Form Partnership to Enhance Green Efforts

BOSTON, MA [January 11, 2010] – Bright Horizons Family Solutions LLC and Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP, a leading global law firm, are pleased to announce a partnership that will enhance sustainability efforts and help fuel the creative spirit of young children who are just learning to draw and write.

In an effort to improve the sustainability of Paul Hastings’ business operations, the firm has focused on reducing resource consumption, in particular, consumption of paper. As part of that effort, Paul Hastings has sought to reduce printing, to foster review of documents electronically, and where printing is required, to reduce paper use, e.g., by double-sided printing and assuring recycling of paper used in print jobs.

One recycling effort focuses on banner sheets, paper which separates different print jobs at printers used by multiple attorneys and staff. Those sheets cannot be reused by the firm and represent a significant use of paper. Paul Hastings identified Bright Horizons, the firm’s long-time partner for child care services and a leading provider of employer- sponsored child care and early education, back-up care, and work/life solutions, as a recipient that would benefit by receiving paper for use in children’s projects and work. Eight of Paul Hastings’ US offices now collect banner sheets for use by children at Bright Horizons locations.

“Paul Hastings is committed to sustainability and environmental leadership in all facets of its business,” said Charles Patrizia, head of the Go-Green Committee at Paul Hastings. “We are committed to developing innovative and flexible solutions that are environmentally conscious, efficient, and workable. We are pleased to partner with Bright Horizons on this project which will decrease the environmental impact of both of our businesses, and we hope that the children’s projects lead to more creativity and learning.”

Bright Horizons® is committed to protecting the planet and teaching children that everyone has a responsibility to take care of the world and its resources. Bright Horizons teachers use the organization’s Toward a Better World curriculum to create hands-on lessons and activities that focus on the ways big and small to make the world a better place. Through the curriculum and programs, Bright Horizons aims to show even the youngest of children how to reduce, reuse, and recycle. This partnership is just one example of the innovative ways that Bright Horizons re-uses materials that would otherwise be thrown away for arts and crafts activities.
