Bright Horizons at Scranton Welcomes Pennsylvania DHS Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh
October 14, 2026 – Bright Horizons at Scranton recently welcomed Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh and Scranton Mayor Paige Gebhardt Cognetti for a visit highlighting Pennsylvania's investment in the early education workforce.
The visit spotlighted increased recruitment and retention bonuses for child care professionals included in this year's state budget and the important role early educators play in supporting children and families.
Secretary Arkoosh toured the center, met with teachers and staff, and read a story to children, experiencing firsthand the impact of high-quality early education on children's development.
Bright Horizons at Scranton provides high-quality early education and care for children from infancy through kindergarten. The center's approach is grounded in Bright Horizons' Discovery Driven Learning® framework, which encourages children to learn through exploration and hands-on experiences. Through nurturing teachers, engaging learning environments, and a focus on each child's individual development, the center helps children build confidence and a lifelong love of learning while supporting the needs of working families.
"Our teachers are at the heart of everything we do," said Deb Jakubczyk, Bright Horizons Center Director, The University of Scranton Early Learning Center. "Investments that help recruit and retain skilled early educators strengthen the learning experience for children, support working families, and help build a stronger early education system. We are pleased to welcome Secretary Arkoosh and highlight the important role these initiatives play in supporting our workforce and the communities we serve."
