As a first-generation college student, I have always been a huge advocate for higher education and improving access to higher education for all.

My path to EdAssist included stops at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where I provided administrative support, to managing campus career development initiatives at Vatterott Educational Centers Inc. Now in my position as an academic coach with EdAssist, I get to bring my extensive experience in higher education to adult learners by supporting them in utilizing their education benefits and pursuing their educational goals.

A favorite note from an adult learner I worked with: "Joanna, the work you put into this is tremendous. I am so grateful. Thank you for the time you spent walking me through options that I didn’t even allow myself to consider." THIS is why I do what I do!

When I went to college, I was the first one in my family to do it. It was absolutely terrifying, and looking back, if I had someone like me when I was 18 trying to figure out my life, it would have changed it. So I’m hoping I can be that person to a lot of people.
