New York City offers full-day 3-K and Pre-K programs for all eligible 3 and 4 year olds, at no cost. Existing programs, like Bright Horizons, are awarded seats based on a rigorous application process.

All children who are also current New York City residents are welcome to apply, including children currently attending EarlyLearn or other preschool programs, children with disabilities, children with accessibility needs, children learning English, students in temporary housing, LGBTQ and gender nonconforming children, and children who move to NYC during the admissions process. You can apply to the 3-K program if your child will be three by December 31 and for the Pre-K program if your child will be four by December 31.

Visit www.nyc.gov/3k or www.nyc.gov/Pre-K for up-to-date information on 3-K and Pre-K admissions. You can register via www.myschools.nyc.

Bright Horizons offers wrap care for 3-K and Pre-K for All families - care before and after the 3-K and Pre-K program hours and during some Non-Instructional Days. You will enroll and be charged for this program separately. Learn more details and information through the Bright Horizons center team.

When you apply with the DOE (thru your MySchools account) you will be asked to list up to 12 programs you wish to be considered for in order of preference. The Department of Education will review all applications and make all 3-K assignments. First priority will be given to children currently enrolled in a program. Second priority will be for children who have siblings enrolled in the program. We are asked to verify this information. All seats are awarded based on the DOE’s priority system, and will be sent through MySchools.

This depends on your child’s age, temperament, and level of maturity. General tips for preparing for the first day of child care include:

  • Developing a relationship with your child’s teacher and keeping communication open
  • Labeling all items
  • Making sure your child has the essentials: bottles, extra clothes, diapers, blanket, and more
  • Talking about the first day with your child
  • Setting expectations for the new morning routine
  • Getting ahead of separation anxiety by creating a “goodbye” routine together

Additional information on our research-backed curriculum can be found here. To find a center near you, click Find a Center in the top right corner of the Bright Horizons home page.

Please submit an inquiry to your center(s) of interest with a request for tuition information. We recommend scheduling a visit at the same time (this can be done on the same form).
