What Sets Bright Horizons Teachers Apart

Bright Horizons teachers stand apart through nurturing relationships, learning built around children’s curiosity, and ongoing training and professional development. Guided by our Educator’s Promises, they bring care and education together to help children feel safe, valued, and confident exploring their world.

For you, choosing child care means choosing the people who will support your child through everyday moments and important milestones. Here’s how our teachers’ qualifications, classroom practices, and partnerships with families shape that experience.

What sets Bright Horizons teachers apart at a glance?

Bright Horizons teachers combine early childhood education experience, ongoing professional development, responsive relationships, child-led learning, and consistent family communication. They meet applicable education, experience, and background-check requirements, then receive continued support to strengthen their classroom practice.

  • Qualifications and early childhood education experience
  • Ongoing training and education opportunities
  • Responsive, relationship-based care
  • Child-led, hands-on learning
  • Regular communication with families

What qualifications do Bright Horizons teachers bring to the classroom?

Choosing child care means getting to know the people who will support your child’s growth each day. Our teachers must meet state and company education and experience requirements and pass required child care background checks. They must also understand developmentally appropriate practice: providing care and learning experiences that fit children’s ages and stages of development.

Daycare teacher qualifications may include:

  • Early childhood education coursework
  • A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
  • An associate or bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field

Qualifications vary by position and location. Your center director can explain the education, credentials, and experience of the teachers who will care for your child. If teacher certification is important to you, ask which credentials the educators at your local center hold and what those credentials involve.

During your visit, consider asking:

  • What education and experience do the teachers have with children my child’s age?
  • Which early childhood credentials have they earned?
  • How do they apply their knowledge in everyday classroom interactions?

How does ongoing daycare staff training support my child's learning?

Bright Horizons invests in teachers’ continued learning through its own training and opportunities to pursue certificates and college degrees. That learning carries into the classroom, where teachers use their knowledge to plan experiences around children’s interests and developmental needs.

Teachers are trained to use our World at Their Fingertips® curriculum within the Discovery Driven Learning® framework. They observe children, reflect on what they notice, plan experiences, and document learning. Rather than following a fixed curriculum, they use children’s questions, discoveries, and emerging skills to shape what comes next.

During a center tour, ask teachers: “Can you share an example of how a child’s interest or question inspired a classroom learning experience?”

How do teachers build trusting relationships with children?

Bright Horizons teachers build trust through responsive care and meaningful everyday interactions. Our Educator’s Promise to nurture and care for the whole child reflects a simple belief: relationships are the foundation for learning.

At Bright Horizons, we call these everyday opportunities for one-on-one connection Prime Times. Whether helping a child wash their hands, put on a jacket, or settle in at drop-off, teachers use routine moments to listen, respond, and get to know each child’s interests and needs. Rather than treating care routines as tasks to finish, teachers make them opportunities to build trusting relationships.

During a classroom visit, look beyond the curriculum, activities, and materials. Notice the interactions:

  • Are teachers listening closely to children?
  • How do they respond when a child needs support?
  • Do they show interest in children’s ideas?

These everyday moments can help you picture how your child will be welcomed and cared for.

How do teachers turn children's curiosity into meaningful learning?

Teachers at Bright Horizons turn children’s questions and interests into hands-on learning experiences. Rather than simply providing answers, they guide children to test ideas, notice what happens, and explore possible solutions. This inquiry-based approach connects learning across different areas of development.

For example, a child’s question about why a block tower keeps falling could become an opportunity to:

  1. Experiment with different block shapes and arrangements.
  2. Compare how wider and narrower bases affect stability.
  3. Count blocks and measure the tower’s height.
  4. Draw or describe the designs, then reflect on what worked and what to try next.

What begins as building with blocks becomes an exploration of balance, measurement, problem-solving, and communication. Children might document their discoveries through drawings, spoken explanations, or writing, depending on their developmental stage.

The classroom supports this exploration, too. Spaces for reading, art, dramatic play, STEM, and projects give children opportunities to pursue their interests, while accessible materials encourage independent choices.

Explore Discovery Driven Learning and see how children’s curiosity shapes learning experiences.

How will teachers communicate with me about my child?

Teacher-parent communication helps you stay connected to your child’s care and learning. Bright Horizons teachers share pictures and updates through our My Bright Day app, giving you a glimpse into your child’s daily experiences.

In the classroom, teachers also update documentation boards that showcase children’s projects, giving them opportunities to revisit their experiences and reflect on their learning. Together, these updates highlight interests, questions, and discoveries shaping your child’s learning and development.

Ask center staff how teachers share updates, whether teacher-parent conferences are available, and the best way to communicate questions or information about your child. Understanding these practices can help you build a strong partnership with your child’s teachers.

What professional support do teachers receive?

Bright Horizons invests in educators through opportunities to earn a CDA credential and pursue an associate or bachelor’s degree in early childhood education with essential costs covered. These education pathways help early childhood educators continue building their knowledge and careers while strengthening the expertise they bring to children and families.

What should I ask about teachers during a center tour?

A center tour is your opportunity to connect these practices with the classroom your child may join. Along with meeting the teachers and observing the classroom environment, consider asking:

  • What is the daycare teacher-to-student ratio in my child’s classroom?
  • Who will be my child’s primary teachers?
  • How do teachers support children who are new to the center?
  • How do teachers support children who have separation anxiety?
  • What recent trainings have teachers completed?
  • Can you show me an example of a child-led project?
  • How will we communicate about my child’s experiences and progress?

Use our center visit checklist to help guide the conversation.
