Bright Horizons Earns Top Marks in 2018 Corporate Equality Index

HRC Corporate Equality Index 2018
November 9, 2017 – Bright Horizons has received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2018 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Bright Horizons joins the ranks of 609 major U.S. businesses which also earned top marks this year.

The Bright Horizons community is inclusive of all children, families, and employees who represent a wide range of cultures, backgrounds, and experiences.  With the help of the Inclusion Council, Employee Advisory Groups (EAGs), diversity champions, diversity training for all new employees, and an initiative called “Inclusion Begins with I” that encourages employees to own diversity and inclusion and have a responsibility to create inclusive workplaces, Bright Horizons strives to create a culture that welcomes everyone and celebrates their unique differences.

“The difference at Bright Horizons was immediately visible to me as a new employee,” said Jamie Kirkland, Senior Business Analyst.  “I was excited to work for a company with EAGs because, to me, that signaled a focus on diversity and inclusion at a level I had not experienced.  When I arrived, I saw how active and engaged the EAGs were and discovered the focus on diversity and inclusion was companywide.  The active EAGs were just an early sign of the importance placed on being who you are and how that is critical to our success.  As I settled into my role and felt more and more at home, I realized there were so many things that we did to show respect for all people at Bright Horizons, and encourage the individual as a whole person.”

The 2018 CEI rated 947 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBTQ community.  Bright Horizons’ efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria results in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.
