Recovering from Harvey

Texas Strong
It's been a long week in Houston. And the long recovery is just beginning.

The tragedy is incalculable. But we're also warmed by the many accounts of open hearts: the first responders working 24/7; the merchants opening stores to give those first responders and evacuees a place to sleep; the locals lending boats to the rescue efforts; the neighbors helping neighbors; and the many people around the country who continue to rally to send Houston the hope and concrete supplies it desperately needs.

We here at Bright Horizons have mobilized to do what we can. Before the storm, we worked closely with our Houston clients - many in essential services including medical, gas, and power -- to enact crisis plans aimed at preserving operations by ensuring children and other loved ones were cared for. Since the storm, members of our Bright Horizons family have been improvising temporary child care for clients across Houston, caring for hundreds of our clients' children with little more than love and ingenuity as supplies. During the worst of the storm, many of these caregivers stayed with children overnight, allowing parents to continue their important work toward keeping their employers up and running.

Vital Help for Medical Providers

Several of these arrangements supported hardworking people in the medical community. We're humbled by the doctors, nurses, and support personnel at MD Anderson Cancer Center and all of the medical providers around the Houston area who have kept their units functioning under exceptionally difficult circumstances. These people have worked tirelessly since Harvey's onset, many without a break, and all despite being personally affected themselves. Bright Horizons team members continue to fly into Houston, joining those already on the ground, all with the goal of expanding child care services, particularly for essential medical providers on patient floors, emergency rooms, and transplant teams.

Working Together in the Wake of Harvey

Our gratitude goes out to all the members of our Bright Horizons and client families who have lent their efforts to the Houston recovery. It's our honor to care for our client families so they can care for their patients, their organizations, and their city.

Bright Horizons has also started the Hurricane Harvey Children's Fund for post-storm relief. All money will go to Houston-area homeless shelters and other organizations that support children and families.

From all of us at Bright Horizons, we send our best to Houston...in every way we know how.
