The rise of the pop-up camp (a summer productivity solution)

Summer 2024 saw the arrival of Bright Horizons pop-up camps, on-site school-age programs with all the perks of camp (counselors, activities, meals, and more). How does it work exactly?

Employers leverage available spaces within their worksites and employees secure their spots, typically at subsidized rates. Attendance can flex for families who are working hybrid or in-office full time. Using existing resources makes it a creative, cost-effective answer to a problem that would otherwise sink productivity. That it incentivizes return to office means it delivers on another bigger year-round goal.

Through its partnership with Steve & Kate’s camp Bright Horizons saw the benefit for both employees and their children. “What we love the most is he is not on the iPads anymore,” said one dad, head of product engineering at Bright Horizons, about the on-site pop-up camp his 8-year-old attended last year at the company’s Newton, MA headquarters. “He’s in proximity to me and we get to have lunch together,” he said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better setup.”
