Happy Employee Wellbeing Month!

employee wellbeing month
Checked your calendar lately? It's employee wellbeing month.

And in honor of, we're shouting out to our clients who know a thing or two about wellbeing, and how to support an employee right.

Around here, we know wellbeing is an art; you can't create it directly; you have to master the art of all the things around people that make them feel, and just as importantly work, great.

As in...?

Support careers

Want to know what makes great employees? Two words: learn stuff. And nobody does it like Aetna. "Education is a powerful vehicle to help employees advance their career," a company exec said at this year's Health Benefits and Leadership Conference. "If, five to 10 years down the road, our employees are still only earning $16 an hour, we've failed them." We'll say it again - congrats, Aetna, for being at the head of the pack.

Help take care of families

Is support for families beautiful? You bet! The Estee Lauder Companies created the foundation for success, offering one pretty post -leave package for returning parents, including six weeks of back-to-work flexibility, in-home back-up child, adult and elder care, back-up child care at centers, an infant transition program, and 15 back-up care visits per family member per year. Thanks, Estee Lauder Companies, for showing everyone how it's done.

Help take care of families, part 2

Got a kid with sniffles? It probably means a day home from work. But not for the folks at WellStar Kennestone Hospital. Employees there have a new option - The WellBee Place, a six-bed room with hospital nurses and two full-time Bright Horizons teachers. "As any parent of a young child can attest, there's a fine line between rest and boredom when kids aren't feeling well," said Ashley Laster, director of the hospital's onsite The Learning Academy. "At WellBee Place, we can provide them with an alternate form of care and comfort." Talk about a great cure for the lost workday - and that's nothing to sneeze at.

Give people purpose

What really amps up wellbeing...and wins an employee's heart? Think, purpose. And what better purpose than spiffing up a play space for homeless children who really need it? That's just what our friends at Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill did, building an awesome new Bright Space that only a bunch of super talented architects could create. The families at the Virginia Williams Family Resource Center say thanks - and so do we. Bravo, SOM!

Last but not least, great feelings come from taking care of our kids. And to our family and friends at our new centers - like the Campbell Family Center  and the reopened Moffitt Cancer Center Child Development Center - we say a big hello and welcome to the family.

Happy employee wellbeing month. Here's to happy employees!
