This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to demonstrate the use of creativity and imagination in learning and play. In this activity, one family member will offer a story prompt. Each family member adds to the story, stretching it out as long as possible. Try this activity over a family dinner or while in the car.
Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.
- Offer a story prompt, such as, “Once a family lived in a tiny house in the woods. They were very happy, but one day a giant…”
- Ask another family member to continue the story, adding more detail and ending at a critical point.
- Continue adding to the story, making it as farfetched, silly, or exciting as you like.
