Sock Puppet Pretend

Little girl playing with sock puppets at home

Materials Needed:

  • 2 Socks
  • Permanent marker
  • Non-chokeable decorative supplies (optional)

Participants: This activity is intended for independent play and adult/child interaction.

Directions:

  1. Draw eyes, a nose, and a mouth on socks to make two puppets (use caution to avoid decorative supplies that may pose a choking hazard).
  2. Put one of the socks on your hand. Use it as a puppet to talk to your child. Be silly. Give the puppet a name. Perhaps it’s a pet or a friend. The puppet can describe what you’re doing, label objects in the house, sing songs, or even tell stories
  3. Let your child use the other puppet, if desired. Try to initiate a back and forth conversation.
