Helping at Home

A glass of fresh squeezed orange juice made at home

This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to develop increasing care for self, others, and the environment.

Materials Needed:

  • Orange
  • Juicer
  • Napkins
  • Small pitcher
  • Plants (Optional)

Participants: This activity is intended for independent play, adult/child interaction, or 2 or more participants/players.

Directions:

  1. Slice the orange in half. Encourage your child to look at and smell the orange. Show them how to juice the orange.
  2. Show your child how to fold napkins and place them on the table.
  3. Let your child arrange or water plants.

Participating in tasks at home allows children to make contributions, build their confidence, and engage in sensory exploration.

Extensions: On a piece of cardstock, trace a plate, cup, and silverware in the correct positions. Set the cardstock on the table as a template for your child to use in setting the table.
