Materials Needed:

  • Bowls
  • Small paper cups
  • Washable tempera paint
  • Spoons

Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.

  1. Begin by having your child mix standard colors, such as red and blue, yellow and blue, yellow and red, and black and white. Before each is mixed, ask your child, what do you think will happen when you mix these two colors?
  2. Next, use the cups to conduct experiments by mixing other colors to see what happens. Ask, what did you discover?
  3. The children can use their new colors to create a painting.
