Blanket Play

An infant engaging their imagination by using their blanket as a toy at daycare

This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to use large muscles to move and balance their own bodies.

Materials Needed:

  • Blanket
  • Soft ball

Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction and 2 or more participants/players.

Directions:

  1. Show your child how to grab the edges of the blanket. Lift your arms up to raise the blanket over your heads. Let it fall and repeat several times.
  2. Place the ball on the blanket and lift again. Can you keep the ball on the blanket?
  3. Place the blanket on the floor. Roll the ball across the blanket to your child. Ask them to roll it back

Learn More: A blanket can become so many things—a parachute, a fort, or a magic carpet. What else can you do with the blanket? Make it playful and silly
