Plant a Little Seed Music

Toddler raising his hand in classroom at day care

This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to use large muscles to move and balance their own body.

Participants: This activity is intended for parent/child interaction.

Directions:

Sing the following song to the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot” (author unknown) while doing the actions.

  • Plant a little seed in the dark, dark ground (pretend to make a hole in the ground with your hands).
  • Out comes the yellow sun, big and round (raise your arms over your head and clasp hands together).
  • Down comes the cool rain, soft and slow (wiggle your fingers to represent rain).
  • Up comes the little seed, grow, grow, grow (slowly move from a crouching position to a standing one).

Learn More:

Look at and taste garden vegetables, read books about gardens, or draw illustrations to go with the song.
