Creating Recipes

Mother and daughter using a coconut to cook healthy recipes at home

This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to investigate new tastes and learn about healthy foods.

Materials Needed:

  • Unfamiliar foods (e.g. kiwi, watermelon, or pomegranate)
  • Journal or paper
  • Writing or drawing tools

Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction.

Directions:

  1. Place foods on the table and encourage your child to taste each one.
  2. Suggest children create a recipe using the ingredients. Ask: why did you select those ingredients for the recipe? How much of each will you use? What would happen if you changed the amounts/quantities?
