Community Helpers - Postal Workers

Preschooler dressing up as a postal worker at day care

This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to demonstrate creativity and imagination in learning and play. Through pretend play, children learn about their community and culture.

Materials Needed:

  • Clipboard
  • Envelopes
  • Paper
  • Writing implements
  • Stamps
  • Bag

Participants: This activity is intended for adult/child interaction or independent play.

Directions:

  1. Talk about the service postal workers provide by sorting and delivering our mail.
  2. Encourage your child to set up a pretend post office and letter writing station. Write letters or draw pictures to send to friends or even your child’s pets or stuffed animals.
  3. Help your child “sort” the letters, sending them to different parts of your home. Place the letters in a bag and deliver or mail them to friends and family.
  4. Write a thank-you note to your local postal workers.
