This activity promotes development and learning by encouraging children to demonstrate knowledge of print and alphabet.

Materials Needed:

• Paper
• Writing materials
• Stapler

Participants: This activity is intended for independent play or adult/child interaction.

Directions:

1. Fold 14 sheets of paper in half. Staple the paper on the fold (two staples, one at the top and one at the bottom) to make a booklet.
2. Make a title page, “My Animal Alphabet Book.”
3. On each page, write one letter of the alphabet, beginning with the letter A.
4. Help your child think of an animal whose name begins with the corresponding letter of the alphabet, e.g., ant for the letter A. Help your child draw pictures of each animal and write the animal’s name.
