Bright Horizons named one of FORTUNE’s “100 Best” for 11th time

January 21, 2010  Bright Horizons Family Solutions, the world’s leading provider of employer-sponsored child care, early education, and work/life solutions, today announced that it has been named for the 11th time as one of FORTUNE Magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For.”

“We are very proud of the manner in which our talented and passionate team has stepped up during these challenging economic times. We have worked very hard to be the employer of choice in our field which is key in our ability to deliver high quality care, education and service to the many clients and families we have the privilege to serve. We are very happy to share this honor with so many of our employer clients who hire us to help them achieve their distinction as great places to work,” said Bright Horizons Chief Executive Officer David Lissy. “Building a strong culture is a long-term commitment and our culture fuels us in all we do. We feel so fortunate to have so many individuals on our team who are committed to making a difference in the lives of those we serve and who continue to say year after year that they are proud to be a part of the Bright Horizons family.”

At a time when employees across the country and across industries were feeling the pressures of the economy, work/life supports were critical to enable people to continue to thrive in their professional and personal lives and according to FORTUNE, one of the most important considerations for this year’s list was hiring and the ways in which a company was helping their employees to weather the economic downturn. Nearly half the employers on the FORTUNE list are Bright Horizons clients who provide their employees with work/life benefits to help manage their job and family responsibilities.

“We are extremely honored that our employees have named us to the FORTUNE list again.” said Bright Horizons President and Chief Operating Officer Mary Ann Tocio. “Our organization is built entirely around people and the vast majority of our employees are our talented teachers and early education staff, who work everyday to support working families and to nurture and care for children. We are so grateful for the work that they do and the culture of trust and teamwork they have created for each other and how it makes them excited to work here.”

To pick the 100 Best Companies, FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. Two- thirds of a company’s score is based on the results of the Institute’s Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about the management’s credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third of the scoring is based on the company’s responses to the Institute’s Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring, communication, and diversity.

Bright Horizons ranked this year at #31 among large companies and #89 overall. The complete list and related stories are available now at www.fortune.com and will appear in the February 8 issue of FORTUNE, available on newsstands January 25.
