Bright Horizons Named to FORTUNE Magazine’s 2012 List of “100 Best Companies to Work For” in America

January 19, 2012  Bright Horizons Family Solutions®, the world’s leading provider of employer-sponsored child care, early education, and work/life solutions, today announced that it has been named for the 13th time as one of FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For.”

“On the heels of our 25th anniversary as an organization, we are more grateful than ever for the strong culture that our employees have created together over the years. Their dedication to our mission is inspiring and humbling and without them, we would not be able to achieve our longstanding mission of supporting working families and employers. Congratulations go to them for this recognition,” said Bright Horizons Chief Executive Officer David Lissy. “We are also proud to stand alongside so many of our employer clients who partner with us to create workplaces that encourage employees to reach their highest performance and productivity levels while also feeling a sense of control and well-being in their personal lives.”

Nearly half of the organizations on the list are Bright Horizons clients, all of whom turn to Bright Horizons to provide their employees with important work/life supports. Employees from these organizations are among the most loyal and engaged. A recent study conducted by Horizons Workforce Consulting™ showed that employees in organizations that offer dependent-care supports are more than twice as likely to indicate that they plan to stay with their employer for at least one year and more likely to trust their employers to treat them fairly, communicate honestly, and help them weather economic difficulties.

“When you work in an industry like ours, personal connections and good relationships are critical to your ability to be collaborative and supportive. We are so fortunate that our employees understand the important work that we do for families and employers as well as the importance of supporting one another,” said Bright Horizons President and Chief Operating Officer Mary Ann Tocio. “In our 25-year history, our employees have made a difference in the lives of so many and we are so proud that they have been honored by FORTUNE again.”

Each year, two-thirds of the total score for the FORTUNE “100 Best Companies to Work For” list comes from responses to a random employee survey, measuring such things as employee attitudes toward management, job satisfaction, and camaraderie within the organization. The remaining one-third of the score is based on an evaluation of each company’s demographic makeup, benefits and compensation programs, and culture. Companies are scored in four areas: credibility (communication to employees), respect (opportunities, benefits), fairness (compensation, diversity), and pride/camaraderie (philanthropy, celebrations).

Bright Horizons is one of only four companies headquartered in Massachusetts on this year’s list. The complete list and related stories are available now at www.fortune.com/bestcompanies and will appear in the February 6 issue of FORTUNE.
