Education Department Botches College Financial Aid. Again.
March 26, 2024 – In a Wall Street Journal article about the recent news that that roughly 200,000 of the 1.5 million-plus college FAFSA applications processed and shared with schools and states so far will need to be recalculated, Shannon Vasconcelos, senior director of college finance for college-admissions advising firm Bright Horizons College Coach shares what this means for students.
Students are in a holding pattern, waiting to compare aid offers from schools that have a range of decision deadlines, said Shannon Vasconcelos, senior director of college finance for college-admissions advising firm Bright Horizons College Coach. She said she is worried schools may encourage students to make decisions without having a full picture of their financial obligations.
“It’s just one more obstacle that these kids are up against where I think they are going to feel undue pressure to make decisions,” Vasconcelos said.
