Bright Horizons Centers Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

September 27, 2023 – September 15 through October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Latinos and Hispanics in the United States. At Bright Horizons, it’s a designated period where employees, children and their families pay special attention to and acknowledge the contributions of Hispanics from past to present.

In centers across the country, teachers incorporate elements of Hispanic heritage in their classrooms by displaying images of artwork and books by Hispanic artists and authors. Teachers also ask children and families to share items with the classroom that are meaningful to them, including their favorite music, activities, and traditions.

At Bright Horizons at Sunnyvale in Sunnyvale, CA, the children read Family Pictures / Cuadros de Familia by Carmen Lomas Garza and were inspired to bring in photos of their own families to celebrate what is unique and special about their community.

The preschool classroom at Bright Horizons at Mercer Island in Mercer Island, WA, watched an enrichment video about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. The children created their own interpretation of Frida Kahlo’s famous flowers to display in the center lobby.

Throughout the month at Bright Horizons at Giralda Farms in Madison, NJ, families are visiting the center and sharing their traditions with all the children. This includes a sing-along of one of the families’ favorite song and a dance lesson.
