Bright Horizons Recognized as an Age Friendly Employer and Provider

Age Friendly Foundation Award

December 3, 2019 – As a provider of elder care services, Bright Horizons is responding to the demographic shift in the communities where we live and work. The emergence of the "sandwich generation" – the children of baby boomers who now have both children of their own and aging parents to care for – has revealed the different obstacles working adults experience and the support they need from their employers.

In recognition of this dedication to supporting an aging workforce, Bright Horizons recently received the 2019 Aging2.0 Boston Revolutionize Award and has been identified as a Certified Age Friendly Employer by the Age Friendly Foundation. The Age Friendly Foundation works to fuel innovation that supports healthy, active and productive aging for all through advocacy, education, and promoting collaboration among thought leaders in aging services.

"As a Certified Age Friendly Employer, Bright Horizons has demonstrated its commitment to supporting employees as they age as well as providing other companies with the tools to replicate this among their own workforces," said Amanda Henshon, Age Friendly Foundation Executive Director.

Bright Horizons employs nearly 600 individuals who are 65 and older, from teachers and administrators to corporate-based employees.

"We are aligned in our commitment to employees as they hit their mid-career strides and find themselves in need of support for their elderly parents, as well as to our employees who themselves are in the ‘aging’ workforce."

The new Bright Horizons Elder Care platform enables employees to:

  • Confidentially document, store, and easily reference a care recipient’s health history and care plan.
  • Track and manage appointments, medicine dosages, exercise regimens, and other caregiving duties.
  • Share information, communicate, and stay in sync with family, in-home aides, and other members of the care team.
  • Communicate with their Care Coach and share files and information.
  • Reserve vetted in-home caregivers through Bright Horizons Back-Up Care.

Aging2.0 is a volunteer-run chapter network in more than 100 cities that strives to accelerate innovation to address the biggest challenges and opportunities in aging. At their recent conference in Boston, Mass., Bright Horizons Senior Vice President of Back-Up Care and In-Home Services Marc Bernica shared Bright Horizons’ commitment to this work through educating others on the value of having reliable and supportive care for aging individuals.

Of the other 87 Certified Age Friendly Employers, 25 are Bright Horizons clients.
