Mel comes to Bright Horizons with more than 25 years of HR leadership across the healthcare, environmental service, and non-profit sectors. She has long been committed to driving equity, innovation and a people-first culture and will bring that focus to Bright Horizons.

Mel most recently served as EVP and Chief People Officer for Clean Harbors based in Norwell, Massachusetts, making the regular commute from her home in Houston to Dedham, MA, which she will continue as part of the Bright Horizons family.  Prior to her work at Clean Harbors, Mel held HR leadership roles with Waste Management, Quest Diagnostics and the Wallace Foundation, a philanthropy that supports initiatives in areas that include education, arts, social and emotional learning, and school leadership. 

Mel is a leader who has earned accolades for her work in HR, including talent acquisition, talent development, and has a personal passion for developing leaders and educating others about the value of sound HR strategy. Firmly committed to giving back to her community, Mel has been a guest lecturer at Texas A&M and sits on the Advisory Board for The SuperGirls Shine Foundation, an organization developing girls in STEM, as well as Dress for Success Houston, and on the Board of TALK Houston. She is also a non-stop adult learner and is currently on a quest to earn her DBA from Northcentral University.

Mel is a firm believer in having fun, and her personal joys include cooking, travelling, and finding great seafood wherever she is. She, her husband, Larry, and their teenage son, Matthew, have a long-standing movie night tradition. They also have plans for a bucket-list trip to Africa next year.
