Kyra Tyler
College Admissions Consultant
Former admissions officer at Brandeis UniversityI have worked in a variety of roles in higher education over the course of my career. I began my career in admissions at Brandeis University, where I spearheaded the school’s student of color recruitment effort. In addition to reviewing applications for incoming freshmen, I also managed the transfer application review process where I was responsible for reading the applications and making the final admissions decision. I also chaired a committee dedicated to offering scholarships and performance opportunities to talented chamber musicians and served as the admissions representative for the selection of the university’s Posse Foundation scholars. Prior to joining College Coach, I was awarded a Presidential Fellowship from Harvard University where I worked in development at the Harvard College Fund. I also worked at the Harvard Alumni Association while pursuing a master of education at the Graduate School of Education.

When I worked in admissions, I saw a lot of families who didn’t seem to have a handle on the college search process and, as a result, were making uninformed decisions about what schools were appropriate for their students. I made the decision to join College Coach because I wanted to help families discover all the great schools available to them, not just the ones their neighbors were talking about or were featured in the popular press on a regular basis. I also saw working with College Coach as a way of making the college admissions process more humane by sharing tips and insights with them. In turn, I think our families find the admissions process to be much less stressful and hopefully even a little fun!
