Learning at home ideas: Picture Blocks
Suitable for: Infant, Toddler, Twos
You Will Need:
Empty cardboard boxes (cereal, shoeboxes, oatmeal boxes, etc.), photographs of familiar people or things, glue, contact paper
Glue pictures to the boxes and then cover them with clear contact paper. Encourage your baby to build with, stack, knock over, and look at the boxes and pictures.
Talk about who or what you see in the pictures. Say things like, “Who is that? Is that mommy?” and “There’s Daddy.” Infants will only play with a few blocks at a time, so you only need four or five. It is helpful for them to be similar in size and small enough to hold easily. Older children will like more variety and have better motor control to stack different sizes.
