Learning at Home: Story Surprise Activity
What if your child’s favorite story had an alternate ending? With this activity, you and your child can create a new one together.
What You Need
- A familiar story or book
- Paper and markers
How to Do this Activity
First, read the story halfway through. Then, brainstorm ideas together for new ways to end it. It might be a little tricky, since he’s so familiar with the actual ending, but try giving an example to get the creative juices flowing. As he gives ideas, write them down. Then, have him dictate the new ending to you. You can also have him write certain words or letters (if he’s able to). Once you’re done, he can illustrate it, too!
What Your Child Learns
This activity builds creativity, imagination, and language as children use divergent thinking to come up with a new ending to the story.
