[EVANSTON, Ill., 2012] – Bright Horizons Family Solutions® will open a new child care center at 1629 Orrington Avenue in downtown Evanston, one block south of the Northwestern campus. The new center will offer working parents in the community a wider range of high quality child care and early education options, particularly for infant and toddler care where there currently is limited availability. The center will also have a relationship with Northwestern University that will provide priority access for Northwestern faculty, staff and students.
“We are very pleased that the expanded options will enable more faculty, staff and students to take advantage of the University’s child care programs,” said Lori Anne Henderson, Director of the Office of Work/Life Resources for Northwestern University. “The agreement with Bright Horizons® will offer Northwestern employees and students priority enrollment for 60 child care spaces, with specific emphasis on infant and toddler care. In conjunction with our other community partnerships, the University is now able to offer enhanced options for access to quality child care convenient to campus.”
The center, which is scheduled to open in September 2012, will offer full-service child care and education for infants through pre-K and will feature small class sizes with teachers trained in early childhood education. Children enrolled at the center will experience an enriching curriculum that empowers them to be confident and successful lifelong learners. The Bright Horizons curriculum places a strong emphasis on the development of language, math, science, and social skills and incorporates the key elements that contribute to a child’s readiness for school and academic success.
With the number of families with two working parents at an all-time high, access to high-quality, reliable child care at work or nearby is an important benefit employees depend on to be productive and present at work. According to recent studies, 90 percent of parents using full- service child care centers say that access to a center at or close to their workplace improves their productivity at work.
“We are very pleased to bring additional high-quality child care solutions to the Evanston community and we are very excited about our new relationship with Northwestern,” said Bright Horizons Chief Executive Officer David Lissy. “There is a critical shortage of infant and toddler care in the area, which is a significant challenge for not just the University but for all local businesses as they work to retain key, talented employees who are part of families with young children.”
Bright Horizons will operate the center as it does each of its programs, according to the highest standards of excellence as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Bright Horizons is privileged to work with many of the nation’s leading colleges and universities to provide child care. Higher education clients of Bright Horizons include Duke, George Washington University, Johns Hopkins, MIT, and North Carolina State University.
