December 6, 2018 – Bright Horizons has been named one of the 2018 Best Workplaces for Diversity by FORTUNE. The Best Workplaces for Diversity stand out for creating great workplaces for all employees, regardless of their personal characteristics. This is the second year in a row that Bright Horizons has been included. Bright Horizons is the only child care organization on the list.
“I am so proud of our employees for fostering a culture where individuality is embraced,” said Bright Horizons CEO Stephen Kramer, who co-chairs the Inclusion Council. “From the classrooms to offices, our workplace is better because it is made up of people with different cultures, backgrounds, and life experiences. And at Bright Horizons, we are teaching the next generation to respect and celebrate everyone.”
Bright Horizons demonstrates its commitment to maintaining a diverse community in a number of ways, including an Inclusion Council that is co-chaired by Kramer and COO Mary Lou Burke Afonso. Bright Horizons’ five Employee Advisory Groups are fundamental to supporting the success of the company. Last year, a new program called Inclusive Leadership: Leading with Intention and Purpose was rolled out to all current Bright Horizons leaders, and all new leaders are required to complete it. The program is based on the Bright Horizons’ Inclusive Leadership Model that was developed in consultation with employees and leaders from across the organization. The model reflects the Bright Horizons mission by guiding leaders to be open, intentional, and courageous and to connect, celebrate, and champion their teams with purpose.
To determine the 2018 Best Workplaces for Diversity list, Great Place to Work analyzed the experiences of women, people of color, LGBTQ employees, employees who are older, and people who have disabilities, comparing their survey results to their colleagues’ at the same organizations. All told, these anonymous survey responses on more than 60 survey questions reflecting day-to-day workplace treatment represented more than 4.4 million employees’ work lives.
“The 2018 Best Workplaces for Diversity are at the forefront of creating workplaces that are better for business and better for their people,” said Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work. “These workplaces not only pay attention to how diverse their workforce and management teams are, but close critical gaps in how all their people are treated and developed day-to-day.”
Bright Horizons is joined on the FORTUNE list by many of its employer clients that provide their employees with work/life benefits to help manage their job and family responsibilities.
