At Bright Horizons, children are empowered to become confident, successful, life-long learners and secure, caring people. We help children to see the world as an invitation to learn, to grow, and to live fully - to see a world full of possibilities that are within their reach. We help children to approach school and academics with skills, confidence, and the drive for excellence.
Bright Horizons Montessori programs are based on the work of Maria Montessori and affiliated with the American Montessori Society (AMS). Children develop at their own pace, in a carefully prepared environment, under the guidance of trained Montessori teachers. The distinctive Montessori environment appreciates beauty, the natural world and child-scaled furnishings to create a wonderful child’s world. In our Montessori programs:
- Children are viewed as competent explorers motivated to make choices. Their absorbent minds enables them to achieve mastery of their bodies, their minds and their environment. They are able to teach other children and act as models for learning.
- Montessori self-correcting, didactic materials and other teacher-made activities encourage children’s exploration of the world through their senses, through movement and motor mastery and are used by the children to develop concentration and observation and assessment skills. The child’s ability to complete a sequence of activity from beginning, middle to its end lays the foundation for higher levels of learning.
- Teachers observe and guide each child through the curriculum by introducing lessons, allowing practice and refinement through repetition and introducing new challenges as the child is ready. New lessons are presented to children as they progress and as children grow they use the materials to explore ideas in new and deeper ways.
- Activities encouraging independence and freedom within appropriate limits create a micro-society of capable, independent learners working together.
