I Want a Dog!
Written and Illustrated by Helga Bansch
Lisa loves dogs. She has "cloth dogs, wooden dogs, knitted dogs, and china dogs" but no real dogs. She is not picky about what kind of dog she wants; she would take a big dog or small dog, a short dog or tall dog. Author Helga Bansch captures the feeling of longing that so many children have of wanting their own pet.
Lisa is relentless when it comes to her quest for a dog. In the beginning, Lisa tries to be really, really good to prove she deserves a dog. When that doesn't work, she starts to be really, really bad. When her birthday comes and goes with no dog in sight, Lisa decides she needs a better plan. Armed with a good idea and a few well-placed signs, Lisa meets an elderly man who just might be able to help her fulfill her dream.
In I Want a Dog!, Lisa shows that a lot of persistence can lead to a happy ending.
