Little White Rabbit
Written and Illustrated by Kevin Henkes
Little White Rabbit by Kevin Henkes is a work of art, sure to be loved by infants, toddlers, and most likely older children as well. We follow Little White Rabbit as he goes about his day, imagining what it would be like to be green like the grass or as tall as a tree or still as a rock. He even imagines what it would be like to fly like a butterfly. But after all of Little White Rabbit's make-believe, he finds there is only one thing he doesn't have to imagine: his mother's love. At the end of the day, she is the one who lovingly greets him when he returns from his adventures.
The illustrations in Little White Rabbit are rich with drawings of nature. Dandelions, grasshoppers, frogs, turtles and even a dragonfly adorn the pages. Other pictures show changing weather or woods filled with squirrels and birds. Young children will appreciate these lovely details in Henkes' vivid illustrations, which are filled with the colors of spring. Even the youngest children will delight in having you point out the squirrels or the grasshoppers and, later, finding them on their own.
If your child enjoys Little White Rabbit, you may want to explore some of Kevin Henkes' other children's books. His website, www.kevinhenkes.com, is full of information for Kevin Henkes fans, new and old, and is a great place to find ideas to extend his stories.
