Brightening Lives: Meet the Need!

2006 U.S. Employee Information and Giving Campaign

Exploring. Dreaming. Discovering. Making new friends. Learning to read. Playing with all kinds of toys and games. Singing a song. Laughing. These are the things that childhood is about. But not for all children. For far too many - more than a million in the United States alone - there is not much laughter. Children who are experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, or other crisis situations usually don't have the chance to play or learn. They desperately need the opportunity to just be kids.

At the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, we strive to open new worlds for children in need every day. Through the Bright Spaces program and a variety of grants, the Foundation aims to meet the needs of at-risk children in our communities.

Why do we do an annual Employee Information and Giving Campaign?

It is the most tangible way that we live out our company's mission of giving back to our communities. As an employee, this is your Foundation and understanding how we can support your volunteer work and how you can support the larger work of the Foundation is important.

In order to distribute grants to charitable organizations, honor our employees' work, and take action to improve the lives of children, the Foundation must have funds. This campaign is the single largest way we raise funds, and the success of the campaign determines the work that the Foundation can do in 2007.

Where Does My Donation Go? Every dollar raised goes directly into the Foundation programs. This past year, we reached thousands of children in need. Our Comfort for Kids partnership distributed more than 58,000 Comfort Kits to infants, toddlers, and preschoolers impacted by the Hurricanes Katrina, Wilma and Rita. We reach nearly 5,000 homeless children every month through Bright Spaces and thousands more through our grant programs and volunteer efforts. But there are so many more who need our help. More than one million children are homeless in the United States today. Many more live with poverty, sickness, and hunger.

Does our company Bright Horizons help to support the Foundation?

Yes, in many ways. The company covers the Foundation administrative staff salaries and provides us with many in-kind services from office space to postage. Our Board leadership is made up of members from the Executive Team, who are each volunteering their time to make the Foundation successful.

Are you a new donor? For the 3rd year in a row, Dave Lissy, CEO and Mary Ann Tocio, COO have pledge to personally contribute $1.00 for each new donor. Make a pledge or give a direct donation and let's have thousands of new donors this year.

Please join us in our mission to brighten the lives of the children who need us. We need your help to Meet the Need.

Ever wonder whether your contribution really matters?

  • $2 provides a Bright Spaces CD for a homeless child, but the joy and happy memories it evokes as they listen to it in their next home is worth much more than that.

  • $5 provides clay or paint for a child, but the experience of squishing and pounding and shaping is much more valuable.

  • $10 buys puzzles and games for a Bright Space, providing hours of joy.

  • $20 buys a complete "My Own Comfort Kit" backpack for a child in crisis, containing a book, a cup, a soft toy, and other special things for a child to keep as his own.

  • $50 buys musical instruments, $100 provides child development training to shelter staff, $200 buys a library of wonderful books

  • Whether you give $3 or $300, you brighten the life of a child somewhere whose world is often pretty dark and uncertain.
